Latest release v0.7.0

A weekend project I'm playing around with. It's free for now, and I haven't decided yet if that will change.

Update components without crossing your fingers.

Components

See every component and where it’s used. When a new version comes along, review it layer by layer before it lands.

Work on a whole set of classes at once.

Style Manager

Select a handful of classes, see where each one is used and rename them all in one go.

Colors and shadows, right where you write them.

CSS editor

Every color and every box-shadow in the CSS editor gets a button. Click it, adjust, and the canvas changes as you go.

Move layers around, even on big pages.

Structure panel

Dragging stays smooth however long the page is, and you always see where a layer will land.

Your fonts, on your server.

Fonts

Drop in your own files or pull a family from Google Fonts. Everything is served from your site, so pages make no requests to Google.

Up and running in a minute.

Get started

It’s a regular WordPress plugin. Install it once and new versions show up in your Plugins screen like any other.

  1. Download the zipNo need to unzip it.
  2. Upload it to WordPressPlugins, Add New, Upload Plugin, then activate.
  3. Open EtchThe tools are waiting in the Style Manager and the Settings Bar.

Questions before you download.

Good to know

Will it stay free?
For now, yes. No account and no license key. It’s a weekend project I’m still playing around with, and I haven’t decided whether I’ll charge for it down the road.
What do I need to run it?
Etch, WordPress 6.5 or newer and PHP 8.0 or newer. It’s built and tested on Etch 1.6.
Does it change Etch itself?
No. It’s its own plugin and never edits Etch’s files. It adds its tools to the builder’s screens and leaves the rest alone.
What happens if I remove it?
Your site keeps working. Fonts and renamed classes always stay. Your recipes and settings stay too, unless you ask for them to be deleted with the plugin.
How do updates work?
New versions show up in your Plugins screen, the same as any other plugin. Update when you’re ready.

Changelog

v0.7.0

  • Turn any feature on or off in the toolkit's settings, under General. Switches apply right away in the builder, no reload needed.
  • Prop keys: when you rename a prop's key in the component editor, the layers that use it follow.
  • Long dialogs, like importing a big list of recipes, now scroll, so the buttons always stay on screen.
  • The box shadow panel scrolls in short windows, so Done stays in reach.
  • Settings switches keep keyboard focus after you flip them.
  • Small speedups in the Style Manager and the canvas.
